Visual Propaganda

White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders stands accused of doctoring a C-SPAN video. CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta is seen rebuffing a press aide’s attempt to take a microphone out of his hand. Experts judged that it was altered to exaggerate the aggressiveness of his actions. If that is the case, the video may belong in a category rarely employed by democratic governments: visual propaganda.
“As visual journalists,” commented the President of the White House News Photographers Association,” we know that manipulating images is manipulating truth.” Ms. Sander’s video version also eliminated Mr. Acosta’s comment to the young woman, “Pardon me, ma’am” while he sought to continue questioning the President.

Fake News

Fake, as in fake news, means untrue. The internet has perpetrated fake news that is published by the enemies of truth. And could Orwell have been predicting fake news in 1984 when he penned, “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
